The language being used, often depends on who you're asking. Different words are being used to describe the same outcome - communities being better equipped to navigate and overcome their challenges through better and stronger connections within.
Community resilience is a term familiar to many organisations, academics and practitioners in the field of disaster recovery, sustainability and community engagement. But what resonates with real people in real communities? Through our work with Canopy Communities, we're finding out!
In this video, we describe what we mean by community resilience at The Resilience Canopy and what our mission is - Empower and support 500 Australian communities to lead their own paths to resilience- whatever that looks like for them. Being better prepared for extreme weather events? Yes. Tackling societal issues like disadvantge, mental health or disconnection that erode strong social fabrics - absolutely. Every community has their own unique challenges, and the journey will look different for them.
At The Resilience Canopy we look to provide communities with the tools, funding, and connections necessary to establish a shared vision of what resilience looks like for them and develop place-based strategies to thrive.
If your community, or one you know or work with, could benefit from support to become more resilient toward your future challenges, apply to become a Canopy Community and begin the journey.
